Only in San Francisco

The City by the Bay is pretty much a ghost town without any tourists around and the business district empty.

Major hotels including the Palace Hotel, the downtown Hilton Hotel and the Four Seasons hotel remain closed and boarded up.

Macy's probably has about 20% of its normal traffic, so what do the stationary engineers at Macy's do?

They go on strike.

I am not making this up.

They have protesters out at all the main entrances. There are about 25 of them out in total.

They want higher pay, better healthcare and "dignity on the job," as the COVID-19 panic roars.

The workers, who handle building maintenance, work on safety systems, boilers and air conditioning and handle plumbing and electrical projects, are members of Stationary Engineers Local 39 of the International Union of Operating Engineers.

The union set up picket lines at the Union Square store in San Francisco (and 52 other  Macy's stores in the western division).

They are lucky they have jobs during the current COVID panic which has hit San Francisco particularly hard because of the authoritarian San Francisco Mayor London Breed and the authoritarian California Governor Gavin Newsom.

I doubt Macy's even cares they are on strike. It is saving them money.

The stores remain open, and the retailer told the San Francisco Chronicle that the engineers' work is being handled by other employees who have been trained to perform their tasks.

Yes, go on strike when you are a burden to the bottom line at your current pay. Genius move when the guy in lingerie can be trained to do your work.
