Al Michaels Probably Needs a Lesson in Risk-Reward Analysis...

Al Michaels

...or maybe he is learning the hard way.

The great sports broadcaster Al Michaels said in an April interview that during the 2019 season, he made a 43,000-1 wager that Tom Brady wouldn't leave the New England Patriots.

Specifically, the bet was that if Brady stayed with the Patriots he would win $2.00, if Brady moved on, he would have to pay up $86,000.

Michaels made the bet against NBC sports researcher Andy Freeland.

Brady left the Patriots for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Michaels says he will pay up: "It will be installment payments of about $3 per year."

  1. You call him the GREAT Al Michaels, and he is.
He made two of the greatest calls in sports broadcasting:
    1. (on the occasion of the US hockey team beating the invincible Russians),
    "Do you believe in miracles??"
    2. World Series 1989: "There's an Earth....."
    Great broadcaster, bad gambler.
