Has Henry Blodget Ever Heard of Afghanistan?

Among a series of absurd reasons to ban guns, Blodget lists this doozy:

Anyone who thinks a few assault weapons will allow citizens to resist tyranny and overthrow our government hasn't seen the weaponry our military has developed in the past 200 years. Your "well-regulated state militia" is going to hold off the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines? Keep dreaming.
Does Blodget have any clue as to what is happening in Afghanistan, where poorly equipped, sometimes barefoot, Afghan rebels  are pushing the U.S. into retreat?

A mechanized military is never a match for a motivated, even barefoot, citizenry.

  1. About 500 people a year are murdered with rifles, about the same number of people who die from falling out of bed. Typical statist insisting upon statist solutions to problems that don't even exist (like market failure?).

    1. Actually only 358 were murdered with a rifle in the last year available from the FBI. So more people were stabbed, beaten to death with hands, or beaten to death with clubs than murdered with a rifle.

  2. I also like the example Andrew Napolitano highlighted in Constitutional Chaos, where the ZOB (a group of Jewish Zionists)stole a bunch of rifles and grenades from NAZI soldiers and were able to kill 300 Nazis and fight for a month.

    1. Stories of liberty like this and in Afghanistan make me want to go out and buy a 2nd AK, just because. I think I will, before it's too late, ... and prior to The Wall coming down.

The rest of the world may have gone bonkers, but I'm not just going to let them walk all over me like a dog rolling over on it's belly.

When I see republicans and democrats - that's how I'll see them going forward - they just want to walk all over me.
What's wrong with them? Are they possessed by demons or something or are they just sociopaths? Ignorance only goes so far.

This is a very revealing statement. He is saying that the tyranny of the U.S. Government is now so complete that any resistance is completely futile.

  4. Also, part of the problem in Afghanistan is the mountainous terrain. I read an article somewhere, maybe here?, that an indigenous population in a mountainous terrain very rarely gets defeated even if outnumbered and out gunned. If Americans decided to overthrow the government, depending on circumstances, there could be many members of the military who would be sympathetic and either refuse fighting their own country men, or join their ranks. Also, missiles, bombs, tanks, etc. are all manufactured by private companies. Depending on the circumstances that may cause Americans to revolt, they could end up much more of a formidable foe than many think.

  5. Uhmurka's much ballyhooed "military might" is a lot of hype. I mean, what's a warmongering, military-industrial complex corporate welfare bootlicker to do? Admit that the taxpayers have been robbed? The U.S military is pretty good at blowing up stuff. At winning wars? No so much.

  6. If semi-auto rifles are so ineffective, why does it terrify the establishment fascist types so much and they want them banned? It certainly isn't based upon crime.

358 were murdered with a rifle in 2010. 358! To put that into context, fists/hands were 745, knives were 1,704, and clubs/hammers were 540. Over 6,000 were done with pistols, however, so why not a push to ban pistols?

Col Jeff Cooper used to say that the media class and politicians were terrified of the image of civilians owning semi-auto AR15s and Ak47s because they could envision them being used against them one day. As with most things, I think he was right on the money. Why else are the NY Times/Wapost/Bob Costas/Bill Clinton/Obama/Bush types such big advocates of the AWB? It certainly isn't based on crime stats...

  7. The ignorance about citizens fighting the military from this author assumes the entire military will side with the government. Does he not realize how many "gun nuts" are in the military? Or how Ron Paul received the most donations by far in the primary? Plenty of people in the military would refuse to fight against US civilians or even outright side with them if things got bad enough.
