Homeland Security Has Purchased 2,700 Light-Armored Tanks

The Department of Homeland Security (through the U.S. Army Forces Command) recently retrofitted 2,717 of ‘Mine Resistant Protected’ vehicles for service on the streets of the United States, reports Modern Survival Blog.

Forget whatever propaganda you hear, the Department of Homeland Security is preparing for civil unrest.

Here's a Homeland Security agent in Albuquerque, New Mexico for Law Enforcement Day, explaining the features of the vehicle.

Obviously, the United States government is quickly gearing up its firepower and other equipment to deal with average Americans. You don't need this kind of equipment against the occasional lone nut. Keep in mind that DHS has also recently stockpiled more than 1.6 billion bullets.  That's enough to put about a million bullets into every serious nut job that has popped up in the country over the last 100 years.

    Hahaha, he didn't say that.

  4. BUT we can't afford to keep illegals in jail because....sequester!

I've maintained that if you can't find a way to deal with these minimal cuts and not cut services (or keeping illegals in jail!) then you need to resign or be fired. It is a sign of incompetence.

  5. Why is the US flag backwards? It's been that way on military uniforms for a long time. If it's because your moving into the wind I think that's stupid. I think it's a secret code to say we're turning everything you knew backwards.

    1. The flag is required to be displayed with the field (the end with the stars) to the front as if it were on a staff/flagpole while moving past you. The flag is never attached to an object from the opposite end (all stripes).

  6. 2700+ of these armored carriers purchased for domestic use would be extremely alarming if true. Have not seen any source for the report cited, so perhaps this news should be taken with a grain of skepticism. Does anyone know where this story came from, and how credible is the source?

    1. jj, it was on MSM outlets this a.m. I saw it on Yahoo! news this morning.

By this afternoon, the articles are gone from all MSM sites.

    2. JJ,

I read the first article this a.m. on Yahoo! news and saw it on drudge.

By this afternoon, the article is gone from all MSM sites.

This is fact. You can form your own opinions.

    4. "They were purchased by the DOD for the Marines."

I read that, too. And I have no problem with the funds coming out of the Corps' funds. What I would like to know is what good a vehicle that is absolutely lousy off-road would be to the Marines? I am reliably informed that the only place an MRAP is of any utility is on well pave streets and highways. Add tothat the numerous sightings of MRAPS in DHS livery and you have a picture emerging that no amount of accounting legerdemain can completely obscure.

  9. Here is what I think. I just did a lot of reading on the Fed and the Petro Dollar. I have come to the conclusion that the government expects an uprising when the dollar and the economy collapses. That also explains the gun ban movements. They don't want an armed citizenship. It seems that a lot of the past and current wars have been fought to keep the petro dollar in place, but more and more countries have been circumventing it with their own currencies. This, together with the unlimited printing of dollars, is moving us closer and closer to the collapse of the dollar, our economy and our super power. I hope I am wrong, but all signs are pointing to this.

    ReplyDelete
  10. There is a strong connection, in my opinion, between the impending destruction of the petro dollar, the wars in the middle east (to prevent those countries from ditching the petro dollar) and the arming to the teeth of homeland security, as well as the movement to ban guns. My assumption is that the collapse of our economy is going to happen in the near future, and the government is expecting the populace to protest and riot in the streets.

  11. I feel like I'm a reasonable person and there is always a reasonable explanation. Why would the Department of Homeland Security purchase 1.6 Billion bullets and these Light Armor vehicles? My opinion for the Light Armor vehicles is because they can all be mobilized by a State's National Guard when natural disaster hits. I live at the Jersey Shore where Hurricane Sandy decimated the area I've called home since I was born. There was fair warning that it would be a storm of epic proportion and if you are not a resident of NJ/NY/CT let me tell you one thing, it was and then some. If the government had these at the time they could have saved lives and made cleanup much easier (dragging downed trees out of road ways, etc.) I assume these vehicles could drive through deeper water and handle rougher conditions then an average police vehicle. As for the 1.6 Billion bullets purchased. I look at it this way, Supply/Demand. Gun sales are at an all time high, people are stocking up. I'm no rocket scientist, but I believe guns are pretty damn useless without bullets. More guns means more bullets. That being said, I can only assume prices for ammunition will rise and continue to rise. Buying the bullets now before prices rise to me seems like an intelligent economic decision for the government. Why pay more for something you will need down the road when you can purchase it now for a lesser rate. To me it seems like an actual intelligent thing to do, for the average person of lesser intelligence it means civil unrest coming and the government is coming for you guns. I bet most people never stopped to think about it that way. Either way you'll probably disagree with me. So my long winded "reasonable" explanation will fall on deaf ears. Usually when the stock market is at an all-time high, fears of civil unrest tend to be be lower I can only assume. Meaning the economy is moving in the right direction.

Finally, in another note: if the Bin Laden spokesman/relative is tried in US courts in lieu of Gitmo, then he will be jailed here... and at the end of the president King's reign, Bad Breath Obama will have the right/priviledge to PARDON PRISONERS... THINK ABOUT IT... That is why I think Arse Holder chose the Venue... what a mess in DC.

  12. Civil Unrest sure if you say so, my rationale is slightly different.

    1) Light Armored vehicles can also be used by the National Guard to help in preparation of Natural Disaster and immediately after. Having these vehicles on hand with the ability to mobilize them into an area before hand will help FEMA's response time (See Hurricane Katrina).
Example: Hurricane Sandy, they seem to be a lot more affective for moving debris from road ways and getting personnel to where they need to be (compared to police vehicles). Global warming is causing more unstable weather patterns and multiplying the impact of these hurricanes, tornadoes, etc. to epic proportions (I live at the Jersey Shore I know this, I've seen this, I'm still dealing with this after the news cycle has ended).

    2) As for Department of Homeland Security purchasing 1.6 Billion bullets, Supply/Demand. Gun sales are at an all-time high. I'm no rocket scientist, but a gun is pretty ineffective without bullets. More gun sales equals more bullet sales, higher demand for bullets means prices tend to rise. Buying more bullets now at a lower rate in bulk compared to buying them later at a higher rate saves government money long term. The government trying to be more efficient, if thats even possible.

Is this the reason for these purchases? What the hell do I know I don't work for the government and they tend to never ask my opinion on these matters, but it is a way way way way more reasonable explanation then preparing for civil unrest. Is preparation for civil unrest a possibility? Sure. But there is also a possibility Santa Clause will squeeze his fat ass down my chimney next year and give me free presents. Think just a little bit outside the box and look at other reasons before you jump to the closed minded explanation.

    1. There is no reason other than prevention from armed attack by the civilian population. You're making an excuse in order to rationalize something you're in denial about.

1.6 Billion bullets is 23 years of WAR based on that Iraq consumes about 70,000,000 (70 Million) Rounds of Ammunition Each Year.

If you think you need APCs for natural disaster help, why doesn't the Red Cross have a whole mechanized unit of them when they go to disasters? What happened to all the natural disasters that happened before 2013?! Certainly APCs have been available for 50+ years.

The militarization of the domestic police force coupled with the rush to ban civilian firearms is the combined single largest to what is left of our tattered contract with liberty.

    4. our government fears us. And if anything all it would be is a ploy to make us fear them. The only thing they fear more than us is the opportunity for any country to unload upon our nation as soon as our government lays the first bullets into the flesh of thousands of its people for a power control. We will quickly start not only a civil war, but a full world war. This war will drain our econemy and ultimately our military, that is when china pulls out as our main funder for our debts which includes but is not limited to our military expenses. If anything they would hope we are to ignorant to realize this and simply be intimidated by their "power". The power lies within the people. Always has, and always will. Sometimes we just forget how powerfull the masses are. Or the few paranoid people that are too cowardly to fight and die for a cause bigger than them convince the masses that we should be afraid. Get real. They are petrified of us.And they know that fighting back when we DO uprise will ultimately be the demise of this pathetic excuse of a free world.Call their bluff and demand a fair america. They have no choice but to subdue to what ultimately is what they are claiming to represent.

If disaster relief were their purpose, they would not need the additional belly armor...just sayin. "Reasonable explanations?" "Paranoia?" I like "reasonably suspicious." 19. I am a Marine tank crewman. Its what i have been doing for almost 4 years now. MRAP's are not tanks, i dont understand why people assume that anything armored is a tank. Now if the DOD or homeland security was buying M1A1 or M1A2 main battle tanks, then people might have a better reason to complain. Because nothing is more terrifying then a 70 ton tank with a 120mm cannon doing 60mph towards you.

    2. Ok, shitbag, use your head. Tanks were used for the initial invasion of Iraq, right? During the occupation tanks & Humvees were proven to have serious weaknesses since they were designed for conventional warfare. The MRAP was the military's solution, it was designed specifically for the occupation stage of THE CONFLICT. So........which vehicle would be better suited (or ideal) for domestic use?

After reading all these blogs my head is spinning. So tell me how do you plan to take on the US military? Ha, you cant even organize yourselves in agreement on here! And this is a WEBSITE!!! Probably a bunch of kids and teenangers who never in thier lives have seen combat or been out of CONUS. Ya make me sick. Some of you sound like you are romanticizing about the idea. It must be what gets you off. because if it really does come down to it and it really does happen you and your families will be decimated... This is 2013...there is no organization there are no revolutionary armies, no George Washingtons... it would be total anarchy....not only would you have to watch out for the military trying to take you down but also your typical scared American civilian who needs food, shelter, more ammo, trying to take everything you have. Good luck. There is no talking sense to people like you... you're just a spoiled scared and greedy civilians...

  25. First of all if the government was gearing up for when the dollar crahsed well guess what? It did pretty much just that in 2008 - all over the world! Any riots? Nope - although there should have been at the very least demonstrations over the utter and complete incompetence of the Bush administraion's (and Congress) handling of the housing bubble and other things that were completely under federal control that blew up the economy of the entire world.

Also, you all are ignoring the fact that DHS did not buy the armored vehicles. They were purchased by the Navy for the Marines. How about all of those bullets? They're being received by DHS over the course of many many years - they aren't sitting in a warehouse ready for immediate use. It's called 'economies of scale'. You buy things in bulk to save money. In this case bullets. Would you rather they buy them one at a time?! They also use most of those bullets for the shooting ranges they run for use by other agencies.

Now, as for our government wanting to kill us (about the only thing you can do with non-existent bullets and armored vehicles). What would that accomplish other than obliterating the tax base? Or if you roll into, say, Philadelphia and declare martial law now you have a local economy that has just screeched to a halt, no one is working and you need to still provide services (trash pickup, running water, street lights, etc) with no money coming into the local government. And with people not working how are they going to feed themselves? Pay the electric bill? Where's the upside to any of this for even a tyrannical government? Some governments can get away with doing this - Syria for instance and Iraq under Saddam Hussein. In a democratic government there just isn't any precedence for what you are all so worried about. Maybe, maybe you could point to the atrocities committed by our government against the American Indian in the mid 1800's or against the Japanese Americans during World War II. But to a general population? Sorry, not seeing it.
