Does Donald Trump Actually Believe This?

Matt Drudge is going strong with the theme that President Trump has been responsible for improving the economy.

Trump retweeted this Drudge tweet:

Does the President actually believe that he is responsible for some kind of jobs turnaround?

The view is pure nonsense. Job growth has been climbing since 2010 after the recession ended and many ran out of unemployment benefits. This is nothing but a typical recovery in a Federal Reserve created boom-bust business cycle.

Here's the chart on job growth and the point where Trump came into the job growth picture.

  1. Is Mr. Drudge this economically ignorant, or is he pushing a narrative for some reason?

    1. Maybe he's just trying to balance the scales because he knows when the inevitable crash comes, people like Wenzel will be blaming Trump.

    2. I'm sure RW will accurately blame Trump's protectionist nonsense for making things worse.

  2. Drudge Report has been a Trump propaganda site since the Republican primaries.

  3. How the hell is this not a recession? Gasoline demand is down. Car sales down. Retail sales down and last Christmas was not great. Retailers shutting down stores. Restaurants down. Where are those low employment numbers?

    1. Except car sales aren't down. I just looked at the chart and it has the same shape as the job growth chart above. Some of the retailers are shutting down because online shops are pulling their customers, not because of decreased demand. Also many of those restaurant closures are the result of minimum wages being increased by huge amounts across the country.
