Ron Paul to Make Major Announcement Next Week

Congressman Ron Paul will make a major announcement next week in Washington D.C. at the National Press Club.

Both Bob Barr and Chuck Baldwin are expected at the news conference. Barr is the Libertarian presidential nominee and Baldwin is the presidential nominee of the Constitution Party.

We don't know exactly what is going on, but there is even speculation that Baldwin and Barr are stepping aside so that Paul can become the nominee of both the Constitution and Libertarian Parties.

The Montana Constitution Party has removed Chuck Baldwin from the ballot and is putting the ticket of Ron Paul for President and Michael Peroutka on the ballot for Vice-President.

UPDATE: Eric Garris reports:The Montana Constitution Party has removed Chuck Baldwin from the ballot and is putting the ticket of Ron Paul for President and Michael Peroutka on the ballot for Vice-President.

Ron Paul was aware that the party planned to do this, and has said that as long as he can remain passive and silent about the development, and as long as he need not sign any declaration of candidacy, that he does not object.

A group in Louisiana has also filed to have Ron Paul's name on the ballot for President under the "Louisiana Taxpayers Party" label.

UPDATE 2:The Ron Paul press conference will be held at the National Press Club in DC on Wednesday September 10th at 10:30am, to discuss the election.

UPDATE 3: National Press Club tells me space is on hold but not confirmed by Ron Paul's people.

UPDATE 4: It's official a press release is out confirming Ron Paul's Press Conference Wednesday at 10:00.

  1. Have ballot deadlines passed in the states to get Paul on the ballot for these parties? Thought they passed a couple weeks ago...?

  2. There's always the "write-in" vote... Luckily his name is easy to spell.

  3. it doesn't matter if the deadline's passed, at least in Texas. Both Obama and McCain missed it - Barr was the only one who would have showed up - but they're still gonna be there.

  4. Who will he take more votes from: McCain or Obama. I hope Dems will know what he thinks on all the issues. For me he is Republican on all kinds of social issues.

  5. This is nonsense.

The Libertarian Party's National Committee (LNC) met this weekend. (Actually, they're wrapping us even as I type.)

I've been following events at the LNC over this weekend, courtesy of an LNC member who's kept us informed of the play-by-play.

A Ron Paul candidacy isn't on any LP officer's radar at this time.

Sure, we'd have liked to have had Paul run. I was a delegate at the convention and would have supported him. But Paul chose not to run.

And I can't see Barr (much less the LP's VP pick, Root) stepping aside. They want it too much. You couldn't pry the nomination loose from their fingers.

If Barr/Paul/Baldwin really are planning all this, it's the best kept political secret in my lifetime.

  6. In most states the deadline for substitutions have long passed.

I really wish people would learn US election law. We probably have singularly the most misinformed public when it comes to Federal Elections, ballot access, laws like the 5% vote for funding rules.

There's simply no legal way Paul can insert himself into the race in any meaningful way at this point.

  7. Hey Greengenes,

Why should voters study electoral law? That is technical stuff that those running for office need to know, but it is about as valuable for the average voter as knowing how toilet paper is made.

  8. So Tom,

Any guess as to what the big announcement could be?

  9. So Tom Silos,

Are you denying a "major" press conference is gong to occur?

Are you denying that Bob Barr will be there?

Are you denying Chuck Baldwin will be there?

Are you denying Paul is going to be om the Montana Ballot?

Are you denying Paul is gong to be on the Lousiana ballot?

To me it sounds like something exciting is about to happen!!

  10. Although any glimmer of hope to improve the current situation is welcome, the real value is the constant flow of creative ideas that RP uses to keep liberty in the mainstream.

That's why stories like this float. What's being suggested is LEGALLY IMPOSSIBLE.

Understanding election law is FUNDAMENTAL to Democracy otherwise you're gullible to media lies.

I can't even begin to tell how DUMB your comment is. Things like Electoral College, State Ballot Access laws, 5% vote for Party funding are CRITICAL for a voter to make a decision. It's one of the bigger reasons why many voters have NO CLUE how there vote does or does not impact an election.

For example BOTH McKinney and Barr would like to get 5% of the vote so their respective parties can get MILLIONS of DOLLARS for their next Conventions and 2012 presidential race. Pass that threshold gives them Federal Funding and a VIABLE 2012 race.

That's why ignorant voters say "you can't win" when a 3rd party candidate who gets 5% actually sets up for viable race in 2012. The next threshold is 25% at which the party is "major."

Instead voters WASTE their vote on Major Party candidates when, depending on the state, they will have NO IMPACT on the Electoral Votes of that state. Whether a candidate wins a state by 1 vote or 1 million votes makes no difference to the electoral college. In about 30-40 out 50 states many voters are wasting their vote when, if they voted for the 3rd party candidate of their choice, they can REALLY CREATE A VIABLE OPPOSITION PARTY within 4 to 8 years.

  12. First of all, the story states a number of things:

    1. That Ron Paul is going to have a major announcement.

    2. That Chuck Baldwin will attend.

    3. That Bob Barr will attend

    4. That Ron Paul will be on the Louisiana ballot

    5. And that Ron Paul will be on the Montana ballot

    6. that there is speculation that Baldwin and Barr will somehow fall in behind Paul.

There are 6 exciting facts--still developing. AND you focus on the technicality of a speculation---when none of us know what this big Barr, Baldwin, Paul shindig is all about. It sounds big to me.

As far as your thinking you are going to get any significant portion of the population to take the time to study arcane---it ain't going to happen ever! You come across as some kind of nitwit who knows one little thing and act superior because of it, when in fact it is useless you are advising a candidate.

Your naivety continues with this whopper:

Whether a candidate wins a state by 1 vote or 1 million votes makes no difference to the electoral college.

Duh!! Were you around for the Bush- Gore election. The dispute was over a lot more than one vote and the Supreme Court decided the outcome. LOL. If it ever comes down to one vote, it won't be your knowledge of electoral law that makes the difference, it will be whoever has the slickest lawyers to spin the law and the slickest power base.

If your knowledge of arcane voter law is "CRITICAL" for all voters to understand, we might as well hang it up now.

Let me state again your knowledge of these arcane laws s USELESS, go read a book on marketing instead--and get some manners.

  13. This is very big news, even if it's still at the speculation stage. I'm sure that if Ron Paul were to announce a run, he would immediately have tens of thousands of volunteers come out in enthusiastic support for him almost overnight. And we've already seen that he can more than raise the money needed!

Have there been any updates on this?

  14. I hope he simply gives a clear testimony of his faith in Christ and presents the Gospel message of repentance and faith in Jesus alone.

  16. Well said ryanshaunkelly! If nader stepped aside too, I'd be flabbergasted! And while we're at it, let's get the supporters of all of the third parties to force our govt. to repeal the laws that only require Reps/Dems to debate. This is the time to do something about it. The time has come!

  17. It's such a big secret announcement that it isn't even on the NPC calendar for this week:

    http://npc.press.org/calendar/calendar.cfm

IOW, there is no announcement from these three at the NPC this week...

    ReplyDelete
  18. Well, it may not be on the npc website, but there was a similar announcement made last friday on Ron Paul's official "Campaign for Liberty" website.

  19. I think that the parties representing the third party candidates will merge (Constitution and Libertarian) and that Ron Paul will run as a makor 3rd Party Candidate due to his success at the Rally for The Republic and the outrage of the government's take over of freddie and fannie.
    The tickets will go:
    Paul/barr and
    Paul/baldwin
or just Paul/barr under the Constitutaional Liberty Party, which will be formed after this convention.

  20. Ron paul was very pissed off that he was not allowed to speak at the RNC. He is pissed off because of what they did in Nevada. He would never support obama or mccain and still has a substantial sum of money left from his campaign.

He could be the ultimate spoiler, taking away votes from both of the repubmocrats. If baldwin and barr both step aside and ron paul ran independent, he would raise many many times what they could. A successful money bomb or 2 would really make things very interesting.

I won't get my hopes up but if he un-suspends his campaign I'll definitely be voting for him. It's all about getting the message of freedom and liberty out there and waking people up.
