Here Comes the Regulatory Expansion Program

Treasury Secretary Geithner will testify before the House Financial Services Committee tommorow.

Treasury is reporting that, "Secretary Geithner will lay out a broad framework to establish the rules of the road needed to restore faith in the financial system."

  1. Major financial news outlets are touting that reform will lead to government oversight of large PE firms, naming Carlyle and KKR by name. As these firms are populated by Washington insiders, I would expect any supervision or transparency to be illusory and nominal, at best. Could these firms have anything to gain by becoming regulated?
