Libyan President Muammar Gaddafi Figures Out America

The timeline:

In September, Libya hired The Livingston Group to improve ties with the U.S.. Since then, it has paid more than $750K in fees to Livingston. That sum generated half of the firm’s foreign fees.

Working the account for Livingston: Lauri Fitz-Pegado. Formerly with Hill & Knowlton, Fitz-Pegado is best known for her work promoting the first Gulf War.

In November, the Carlyle Group hosted a dinner for Gaddafi's son at The Washington Club.

In February, Pegado traveled to the World Economic Forum in Davos with Gaddafi's eldest son Saif al-Islam al-Gaddafi, the head of the Gaddafi International Charity and Development Foundation.

In March, the Carlyle Group announced it raised first Middle East and North Africa fund at $500 million.
