It's much too early to know the reasons behind today's subway crash in D.C. but, if "faulty maintenance" comes down as having any part in the crash, keep in mind what I wrote in March.
I'm personally just surprised something like this didn't happen earlier, like during the Obama Inauguration. They were running those trains like twice as often as they normally run with no scheduled maintenance downtime. I was certain there was going to be some derailment or something, a small price to pay to enhance the grandeur of the new emperor, of course.
Dan Tangherlini is the current City Administrator of Washington, D.C., and previously served as the interim general manager for the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, which operates the Metrorail and Metrobus systems in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.
