Former DHS cyberszar Beckstrom is now head of ICANN. He talks a good game on keeping the internet open and decentralized, and he openly decried the NSA's control tactics while he was cyberszar. However, he supports DNSSEC, which seems innocuous enough, but may be a first step to more centralized command and control from the top level domain name servers. Also, how could he survive one year on a $500,000 budget, which he said only lasted five weeks? Maybe it's nothing, but it seems strange.
