News Corp Execs Meet w/ Competitors in Effort to Begin Charging for Access to Online Content

News Corp's Chief Digital Officer Jonathan Miller is believed to have met with major news publishers including New York Times Co., Washington Post Co., Hearst Corp. and Tribune Co., publisher of the Los Angeles Times, according to LaTi.

According to LaTi, WSJ Editor Robert Thomson has called Google and other news aggregators, who believe that content should be free, "parasites or tech tapeworms in the intestines of the Internet."

Newspaper publishers just don't think the advertising model with free access for readers works for them. Internet ads account for just 12% of a newspaper's revenue.
