Bank of America Corp. remains the largest banking institution in the country by total assets, based on second-quarter data.
A ranking analysis released Wednesday by Virginia-based research firm SNL Financial, based on Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. filings shows that Charlotte, N.C.-based BofA has total assets of $2.3 trillion and total deposits of $971 billion.
The top nine bank holding companies all retained their ranking from the first quarter. In second place is JPMorgan Chase & Co. with assets of $2 trillion and $866 billion in deposits, while Citigroup Inc. is third at $1.85 trillion and deposits of $804 billion.
The newcomer to the Top 10, in 10th place, is BB&T Corp., after its acquisition of failed institution Colonial Bank on Aug. 14. BB&T has total assets of $174 billion.
