Among the proposals circulating is one from Representative John Boehner of Ohio, the House Republican leader, who recently suggested raising the retirement age to 70 for people at least 20 years from retirement. If Bernie Madoff could change the withdrawal rules and tax 'the people' to save his funds, he would still be in business.
Other options include increasing Social Security payroll taxes, subjecting more income to the tax, reducing initial benefit payments or cutting cost-of-living increases (which would affect current retirees).
If there was just in America, Alan Greenspan would be sharing a cell with Madoff.
A cell? You mean he's lucky he isn't hanging from a lamp post. Or is he? To quote Bob Dole, where's the outrage? There ought to, logically, be blood in the streets already, yet all we have are the Tea Party. Meanwhile, the younger set are still enamored with being socially 'cool' by watching John Stewart and saving polar bears from drowning!
ReplyDeleteI wonder what it will take to wake the sleeping giant that is America's lower class to rebel against these gangsters? We're still too spoiled, even with 20%+ unemployment and rising prices. We the lazy idiots are hopeless until we start having actual hard times.
