Geithner to Speak at Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute

The Department of the Treasury has announced that Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner will deliver remarks during the opening plenary session, “America's Future: Economic Prosperity,” of a Public Policy Conference hosted by the (CHCI) on Monday, September 13, 2010.

According to Treasury, Secretary Geithner’s remarks will focus on "the Obama Administration’s continued efforts to promote job creation and economic recovery– both for the Hispanic community and for all Americans. He will make a strong case for President Obama’s pro-growth economic agenda and urge Congress to swiftly enact both a small business jobs bill and an extension of tax cuts for working and middle class families. Additionally, Secretary Geithner will speak to the importance of the new proposals that President Obama outlined this week to strengthen our economic recovery. These initiatives will provide a critical spark for investments in infrastructure, research and development, and other areas of the economy, which will not only create new jobs for Americans, but also help ensure that our nation can compete and thrive for the long-term."

The conference is part of an annual three-day forum, which marks the beginning of Hispanic Heritage Month, and will include discussions on public policy issues of importance to the Latino community including education, immigration reform, health care, labor, the current state of the economy, and financial services. Following his remarks, the Secretary will engage in conversation with Representative Xavier Becerra (D-CA) and the audience.
