The website of MasterCard has been hacked and partially paralysed in apparent revenge for the international credit card's decision to cease taking donations to WikiLeaks.
A group of online activists calling themselves Anonymous appear to have orchestrated a DDOS ("distributed denial of service") attack on the site, bringing its service at www.mastercard.com to a halt for many users, reports the Guardian.
What next? They aren't going to stop with MasterCard.

ReplyDeleteThe people of Wikileaks are heroes. But if somebody decides not to business with them, it's their decision. Mastercard is a private business. It has the ability to decide who and what it does business with. Defacing and destroying private property in the form of a DDOS attack is illegal, stupid, and evil act.
These stupid actions by Anonymous will be used as justification for further action against Wikileaks, having exactly the opposite effect intended.
The fact of the matter is that it is the government that is engaging in high level obfuscation and intimidation tactics, not Mastercard. The main culprits here are the government, not a private business.
Wikileaks does a much better job at exposing evil and stupid acts than the current mainstream press. I hope Wikileaks survives, but in the present climate, I am skeptical it will. And really, acting like hooligans does not help matters at all.
