Today, Treasury Secretary Geithner visits Sao Paulo and Brasilia, Brazil to consult on shared bilateral and G-20 objectives and, according to the Treasury, "to highlight the importance of economic and financial cooperation with the Government of Brazil". His visit comes just one month after Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff’s inauguration and ahead of President Obama’s announced visit to Brazil in March.
In the morning, Secretary Geithner will meet with local business leaders and economists in Sao Paulo.
At 10 am, Secretary Geithner will visit Fundação Getulio Vargas for a discussion with university students moderated by former Brazilian Central Bank Governor Henrique Meirelles.
In the afternoon, Secretary Geithner will hold bilateral meetings with President Rousseff, Finance Minister Guido Mantega and Central Bank Governor Alexandre Tombini.
In the evening, Secretary Geithner will return to Washington, DC.
