Ron Paul Headed to Iowa

Ron Paul has just raised the hopes of many that there may be a 2012 presidential run by Paul. Word is out that he will be a speaker for the Iowa-based social conservative group the Family Leader's speaker series.

Paul will speak on March 7. This is a biggie. Other speakers include, Michele Bachman, Rick Santorum, Newt Gingrich and Herman Cain, according to Politico.

  1. Paul is not electable, IMHO, because he is too isolationist and against the projection of military power except in the case US interests are attacked.

When Iraq took over Kuwait, it threatened the postwar stability. The US basically holds, whomever controls a patch of land now, like it ir not, is entitled to control it forever (absent minor exceptions for home grown takeovers and totally unimportant regions).

That is pretty much the philosophical basis of private property in the Western World. We could go back forever deciding who had the best right to it, or we could allow people to fight over it, or we could have what we do, which is who has it at a certain date is legit, from then on all transfers are voluntary.

If we back off that and say it is your problem if one country wants to fight another, the whole world is plunged into chaos. I visited the Czechk Republic and the tour guide said that the ceremonial palace guard was the entire military.

Wikipedia on one aspect of the Czech Air Force:

"The separation saw a large reduction in types, numbers and bases. In 1994 saw the creation of the 3rd tactical air force corps. The newest fighter in the Czechoslovak Air Force arsenal was the MiG-29 (Izdelie 9.12). As there was only one general maintenance kit, which was given to newly created Slovak Republic . . .
led to exchange of 10 MiG-29s with Poland for PZL W-3A Sokół rescue helicopters . . ."

In the lawless international world I do not believe an attractive country with a poor economy but lots to plunder, whith essentially no defense capability, would survive absent the US no invasion policy.

And hundreds of other places would be enticing tidbits, maybe Germeny and Japan absent US bases and defense packs.
