China to Suspend Approval of New Nuclear Projects .

China will suspend approving new nuclear projects until new safety rules are ready, China's State Council said Wednesday in a statement, according to WSJ.

China will also conduct an overall safety check of its nuclear facilities and inspect nuclear plants being built to ensure they conform to safety standards, the State Council said after a meeting chaired by Premier Wen Jiabao.

  1. Chinese reactor summary:

Looks like a panapoly of builders, including the French, Russians, Germans and Chinese themselves.

  2. China forges ahead. The Japanese blip will not slow them down. From the Business Standard today,"The nuclear renaissance that is now under threat has been largely the result of rising demand from countries in Asia, particularly, China and India. China currently operates 13 reactors with a 10.2 GW capacity and has 25 new reactors under construction. Its target is to achieve a capacity of 75 GW by 2020. India has 22 reactors with a total capacity of 4 GW but has plans to achieve 20 GW by 2020 and 60 GW by 2030-31."

  3. Without governments giving out radiation reports, a prudent thing would be to get iodine pills or if sold out get kelp, from GNC or such stores. The west coast will be in the prevailing wind path.
