Is the U.S. About to Establish a No-Fly Zone Over Libya?

We are getting closer.

The Arab League voted to ask the U.N. Security Council to impose a no-fly zone over the country.

Remember, earlier this week I reported that German Ambassador to the United States, Klaus Scharioth, told a World Affairs Council audience that he did not expect military intervention from the U.S. and Europe in Libya, not even a no fly zone, unless it was demanded from the "global community" including the United Nations, the Arab League and the African Union.

Since these things are often orchestrated, if we hear a similar call for a no fly-zone from the African Union, it would suggest that one will be established.

This wouldn't be pretty. In testimony before Congress. Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates warned that a no-fly zone would have to begin with an attack on Libya’s air defenses and would require "a big operation in a big country."
