How the Nuclear Power Plants are Supposed to Function During an Earthquake

  1. Lessons to be learned concerning any industrial plant located near the ocean: make provisions for a tsunami. In this case, locating the generators on an elevated structure might have prevented the problems.

FYI: I don't live there, but I noticed the area of Los Angeles from Huntington Beach to Cypress is fairly low land with no barrier at the ocean. I'd think a tsunami there could have a major effect. Probably other areas of the LA area could suffer also. A couple years ago, I saw on an (evil) PBS program that someday a large piece of one of the Hawaiian islands is expected to break off and fall into the ocean creating a large tsunami that would hit the LA area. I think the programming on PBS is pretty good - at least the educational shows - yes, weaning them off the goobermint utters is probably a good idea and that has been going on for a while.
