London School of Economics to Commission Inquiry into Its Relationship with Libya and Saif Gaddafi

An elitist school gets caught in the Middle East uprising.

The London School of Economics has just issued this letter to the LSE student body, from Adrian Hall, Secretary and Director of Administration:

It is with great regret that I announce that the LSE Council has accepted the resignation of Sir Howard Davies as Director. The Council has asked him to stay on until arrangements for a successor have been resolved.

The Council has commissioned an independent external inquiry into the School’s relationship with Libya and with Saif Gaddafi and into related matters.

"Realted matters", hmm.

LSE just had a Goldman Sachs partner speak at the school. I'll be impressed with LSE when they ban Goldman Sachs from the campus, not when they cut ties with a dictator's son only after the dictator starts dropping bombs on his own people.

Until then bombs LSE didn't see any signs of trouble with the relationship between the school and with the dictator and his family?

  1. Saif Gadhafi, the Colonel's son, left a trail of high powered British names in Western daily newspapers.

The Carlyle Group hosted a dinner in Saif's honor at the Washington Club in 2008. Senator John McCain tweeted from the Gadhafi ranch

Insiders, especially the U.S. Congress, pretend none of this ever happened.

Yet they want Libya's cheap oil:

CNBC said Libyan oil comes out the ground for the low cost of $1 per barrel.

That's one heck of a profit margin with oil over $100 per barrel.

  2. Who wasn't courting Libya in 2008-2009?

It's a who's who of British and U.S. officials, government and corporate.

  3. From the LSE, promoting a May 2009 talk by the younger Gadhafi. Note Saif's thesis title:

25 May: Saif al-Islam Al-qadhafi · Libya: Past, Present, and Future

Saif al-Islam Alqadhafi is currently Chairman of the Gaddafi International Foundation for Charity and Development based in Tripoli, Libya. He received his Ph.D. from the London School of Economics in 2009. The topic of his thesis was "The Role of Civil Society in the Democratization of Global Governance Institutions: From 'Soft Power' to Collective Decision-Making?" He received a Masters Degree in Business from Vienna's IMADEC University in 2000. He graduated with BSc in Engineering from Tripoli's Al Fateh University in 1994.
