NYC's Queensboro Bridge to be Renamed after Ed Koch

In the time honored tradition of politicians honoring politicians, the New York City Council passed a resolution earlier today to rename the Queensboro Bridge after former Mayor Ed Koch. The resolution passed 38 to 12.

The Queensboro Bridge, also known as the 59th Street Bridge, connects Manhattan to Queens. It will now be officially known as the “Ed Koch Queensboro Bridge".

Koch served as mayor of NYC from 1978 to 1989. Since then, he has endorsed, for various offices, such lunatics as Rudy Giuliani, Michael Bloomberg, Al D'Amato, George W. Bush and Eliot Spitzer.

The only thing that comes to mind during the rough and tumble period when Koch was mayor of NYC is that he was instrumental in making New Yorkers pick up dog poop, after their dogs pooped on NYC sidewalks. They should have named the pooper scooper after him.

  2. Two things pop up in my mind:

    1) The cost of all the signs that will inevitably and unnecessarily replace the old signs.

    2) The further glorification of government...no different than seeing signs all over Iraq of Saddam's face.
