U.S. Government February Deficit: $223 Billion

The United States government posted its largest monthly deficit in history in February at $223 billion, according to preliminary numbers released by the Congressional Budget Office.

It marks the 29th straight month the government has run in the red — a modern record.

To put the "budget battle" in perspective, the February deficit is nearly four times as large as the spending cuts House Republicans passed in their spending bill.

Bottom line: The Congressional budget battle, and Republican cuts, are a joke. We are going over the edge, fast.
