"Libertarian" Megan McArdle on the Budget

"I don't see how spending is going to fall in the near-to-medium term," says McArdle.

Well, uh, here's how you could cut $500 billion from the FY  2012 budget and $4 trillion over 5 years.

The "libertarian" McArdle also seems to think tax increases will be necessary:
To be sure, the Republicans do not seem to me to be in much keener touch with reality--Grover Norquist not only believes we can do it all without tax increases, but enforces that discipline on the politicians of the right.

  1. Seems to be one of those fashionable libertarians who likes the idea of freedom, but is pretty afraid of it. A person who can argue that we need tax increases is a person completely divorced from the libertarian mindset. It's become rather en vogue to use the moniker, unfortunately.
