Former IMF Chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn's wife was trying to rent an apartment on NYC's upper east side for DSK, in the posh Brsitol Plaza building, after he was granted bail but while he is was still locked-up at Rikers. Residents of the building squashed the deal.
It's a curious pick by the wife of DSK. O.J. Simpson once owned a condo in the building, a two-bedroom condo complete with 10-foot ceilings and a sweeping view of Central Park.
Following his successful defense against murder charges, Bristol residents were not happy about the possibility that O.J. might be moving back into the building. The NY Daily News reported in 1995:
"If he [O.J.] moves back, I'd move out in a flash," said Stephanie Alexander, who was taking her 7-month-old son James out for a stroll in his baby carriage.
"I wouldn't want him anywhere near my baby," she continued. "He's a murderer. He's not welcome here."
"That bastard!" said resident Jenny Cordero. "I'm not going anywhere near that man. But if I get stuck in the elevator with him, I'd ask him what it's like to get away with murder."
I think if I were in an elevator with OJ Simpson, I'd just say, "What floor, sir?"
