Government Attempt to Use CIA to Get Dirt on Prominent Blogger

Here's the real problem with government tracking of its own citizens. You never know when the government will turn pure evil and start using data to destroy its own citizens.

The United States government attempted to use the CIA to destroy the reputation of a prominent critic of the war in Iraq, Juan Cole, a Professor at the University of Michigan, who runs the very popular blog Informed Comment.

Democracy Now has the chilling story. This being Democracy Now, they don't get the big picture that this could occur in any administration. They are simply spinning the story as a Bush Administration event, rather than a government event. Or does Democracy Now think other Administrations have been lily white?
