What's Next? Will Obama Start Talking to the Portraits of Dead Presidents?

NyPo's Michael Goodwin reports:

The reports are not good, disturbing even. I have heard basically the same story four times in the last 10 days, and the people doing the talking are in New York and Washington and are spread across the political spectrum.

The gist is this: President Obama has become a lone wolf, a stranger to his own government. He talks mostly, and sometimes only, to friend and adviser Valerie Jarrett and to David Axelrod, his political strategist.

Everybody else, including members of his Cabinet, have little face time with him except for brief meetings that serve as photo ops. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner both have complained, according to people who have talked to them, that they are shut out of important decisions.

The president’s workdays are said to end early, often at 4 p.m. He usually has dinner in the family residence with his wife and daughters, then retreats to a private office. One person said he takes a stack of briefing books. Others aren’t sure what he does.

If the reports are accurate, and I believe they are, they paint a picture of an isolated man trapped in a collapsing presidency. While there is no indication Obama is walking the halls of the White House late at night, talking to the portraits of former presidents, as Richard Nixon did during Watergate, the reports help explain his odd public remarks...If he cracked a single smile at the hour-plus press event, I missed it. He seems happy only on the campaign trail, where the adoration of the crowd lifts his spirits.
A depressed, ineffective President is not necessarily a bad thing, in the eyes of a fan of liberty. Such a President does less plotting and has little ability to rally the masses for some giant-sized intervention. I'm sure there are others who continue plotting in the White House, but a President who is one step away from having a cordial chat with Teddy Roosevelt, does slow down such plotting.

  1. I'd like to send him Economics in One Lesson, but I doubt he'd read it.

  2. It might seem a touch cynical but since we in an election year...but horseturd, this is just a play to whip up the sympathies of supporters to spend more and work harder on his campaign.

  3. As a friend once told me, the dinosaurs are dying off, but the flailing during their death throes can still kill you.

Look for more more foreign killing as that seems to make the electorate orgasmic -- especially the neocons. And, as you've pointed out, there will probably be a false, Fed-generated boom next year. It depends upon how the electorate responds to the accompanying inflation. Obama is not out of the game by any means -- especially if Republicans nominate anyone other than Ron Paul. The other Republicans are just more status quo, and I think all of Ron Paul's support just walks away from the table if he's not nominated.

  5. A man with an empty moral and philosophical foundation finds solace in the gazing eyes of others. Staring into the abyss becomes a terrifying experience because they can only see an empty shell before them.

  6. "I'm sure there are others who continue plotting in the White House..." Yeah that is a nice description of both Jarrett & Axelrod. What concerns me is what they may do in his name and with or without his knowledge.

  7. He leads the greatest killing machine in history. Killing always has consequences, the man must be thinking day and night about the way his masters have manipulated him. The puppet with some soul maybe?

Golf anyone, "I'm looking for a threesome to join."
