Senate Passes Bill that Allows Military to Take Custody of Americans

United States soil will be defined as a battlefield if the Senate has its way. The Senate voted to preserve language that will give the U.S. military a crack at al Qaeda operatives captured in the U.S., even if they are American citizens.

Led by Senator Carl Levin, the Michigan Democrat who chairs the Senate Armed Services Committee, senators voted 61-37 to preserve the language that gives the military custody of al Qaeda suspects, rather than turning them over to law enforcement officials.

President Obama has said he will veto the legislation, but only because he wants the power for himself, as opposed to Congress.

“Any bill that challenges or constrains the president’s critical authorities to collect intelligence, incapacitate dangerous terrorists and protect the nation would prompt the president’s senior advisers to recommend a veto,” the White House said in a statement.

  11. Hilarious, that libertarians have to pray for a veto by Obama to preserve our dwindling civil liberties and defend our remaining constitutional rights.

Then i hope someone in a position of power mistakes you for a homegrown terrorist and gives your viewpoint a test drive.

Laws enacted by the government of the Reich may deviate from the constitution as long as they do not affect the institutions of the Reichstag and the Reichsrat. The rights of the President remain undisturbed.

Don't phrase it this way! You are doing John McCain's work for him. How do you know they are al Qaeda operatives? The purpose of due process is to determine the truth in an open and impartial manner.

Anyway, "al Qaeda," like "terrorist," is government code for "Ooooh! Scary person! But worry not, citizen, for your government will protect you! Now bend over..."

  18. This bill is pretty damn good, as proof that Republicans and Democrats are indeed two wings of the bird of PREY.

    They are both fascistic.

This is not the limit, because it is quite obvious that the limits are being tested, and as long as they are in power and face no serious opposition from the people, they will keep pushing the boundaries on those limits.

  20. So what are we to do to stop these types of bills/ammendments at this point? Or stop our reps and turn this ship around?

They are never in their offices to see any protests or listen to our concerns. Calling, faxing and e-mailing falls on deaf minds.

Seriously, how do we citizens force our reps to see we are not going to take it any more? We have spent two years trying to get their attention and they completly ignore us.

I will be voting for Ron Paul, but I expect rampant voter fraud should it look as though he might win.

What do we do to stop this????? Really. We need some answers out here.
