Rand Paul Confronts John McCain about Sending Americans to Guantanamo Bay

During the debate on the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal 2012 (S.1867), Senator Rand Paul put it straight to Senator McCain (sponsor of the bill): "Under the provisions [of the bill] would it be possible for an American citizen to be declared an enemy combatant and sent to Guantanamo Bay indefinitely?"

Notice in the clip below how McCain doesn't answer the question directly, he just implies that it could be the case and attempts to confuse the issue by discussing those foreigners who have been released from Guantanamo and are now allegedly fighting the United States.

If this is such a great clause in the Act, why isn't McCain willing to stand up for it and say so, rather than ducking the issue?

  1. To bad they didn't keep scooping out McCain's face and went for full-on lobotomy. We'd all be a little safer if that was the case...

  2. The epic scorching McCain is receiving on his Facebook page for this totalitarian nonsense is encouraging.

  3. Perhaps the one with more scars than Frankenstein is harboring so much anger and rage at his abductors and torturers from 40 years ago, that he will just take revenge on anyone and everyone.

  5. That's NOT an American politician. That's a right wing nut-job with a federal bend, who's a clear & present danger to ALL Americans who believe in freedom & liberty. The man can't even spell the word Constitution. Why would we think he'd bother following it, like his sworn oath requires him to do???
McCain is a traitorous mouthpiece for the military loving right wing. And as such is one of the most dangerous & over-spending politicians currently in Washington. That is a despicable human being. Like the failing dollar, he just needs to be replaced with someone a little more conscious of our historic origins and who's a little less....reactionary in thoughts and deeds. Let's hope that the citizens of Arizona who sent this creep to Washington DC practice some term limits the next time the opportunity to do so comes up and grant him the thing he deserves so much - retirement.
