Israeli to Head Zambia Central Bank

The Jerusalem Post is reporting that  Stanley Fischer, current governor of the Israeli central bank, is about to resign to become head of the Bank of Zambia.

Fischer was born in Northern Rhodesia (now Zambia) in 1943 and moved to Southern Rhodesia (Zimbabwe) in his teens. He studied at the London School of Economics, obtained a doctorate in economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1969 and worked as an economist in the US before becoming governor of Israel's central bank in 2005.

"Stan loves Israel and is proud of his Jewish heritage, but his heart has always been in Southern Africa. He probably has the best collection of Bantu artwork this side of the Zambezi River," the Post quoted a source as saying.

According to the Jerusalem Post, Israeli finance minister Yuval Steinitz is furious about Fischer's decision and is trying to persuade him to stay.

  1. This short biography of Fischer is far more revealing - and damning:

  2. Thank goodness he "probably has the best collection of Bantu artwork this side of the Zambezi River". What bona fides for the position...

Roughly the equivalent to being the best ballerina in all of Galveston...
