Wow, If You Need a Lawyer, Hire This Guy

Well, he is still in law school, but check this out.

A Know Your Rights Law student backs down a cop after being unlawfully stopped for carrying a gun in Portland, Maine.

Bottom line: Most cops are most concerned about their jobs. They have so many rules that they are required to follow, none of them really know when they are and are not breaking the law. If you show even a hint of superior knowledge most of them, especially in big cities, will be very careful with you. The student in this video is very knowledgeable, but you can get pretty far with a lot less knowledge, or the appearance of superior knowledge.

  2. Very impressive performance by the young man. I think he could have been a teensy bit more diplomatic though, but still well done. There are of course many areas of the country where open carry will get you arrested or worse. However, if one wishes to avoid the risky business of confronting a cop, concealed carry is the way to go if possible.

P.S. Wenzel, still posting after midnight! Do you ever sleep?

  3. Right on, too many just roll over for these thugs.Cops are not your friend nor they there to help you, even though this cop thinks his job is to make sure everyone is "all set",
    whatever barney.

  4. It's fairly reasonable to have superior knowledge on a constitutional basis, but it gets hairy once you get into state laws. This guy was impressive. But if your carrying a weapon anywhere, you need to be. Concealed carry is definitely a great thing for those states that allow it. I wish New Jersey did. I'd carry every day; and I would train at least twice a week. Most people who know me would probably feel I'm not "equipped" to carry a gun. But I know I would never pull it unless lives were threatened. I think the most dangerous thing one could do, would be to use it as "leverage" in an argument with someone where the opposing individual does not threaten violence. If they do threaten violence, merely revealing you have a gun would do a lot to diffuse the angst and send you on your way, in peace. One of many experiences I had, was an idiot in a crowded bar who told me I could not sit next to him (I wanted the seat for the overall view of the bar). While I wished I had a gun on me for protection, this was not an instance to use it. I changed my seat, he thanked me, and I gave him an arrogant "thumbs up" response. Dumb story, but I was alone in an unfamiliar place. Merely having a gun would have made me feel protected to go about by business in a peaceful way. It is beyond injustice that our state governments have any say in law-obiding citizens carrying guns. I don't even agree with permits when criminals obtain guns illegaly every day.

  6. It would be wonderful if all of us could know the law and our constitutional rights as well as this young man. On the other hand most of us realize that the system is so "gamed" and non functional that the PTB will simply continue to ignore inconvenient constitutional guarantees.

  7. I think this officer's reaction has more to do with the scrutiny the Portland Police Bureau has been under recently. I think most of the time, cops will just beat the crap out of you if you piss them off regardless of the law.
