Power players always get to the power centers, to influence government. Even if campaign contributions were completely banned, power players would figure out how to get to the centers. The only way to stop this is by eliminating the power centers
Mr. Wenzel and Mr. Rossini have it correct, the only method is to devolve authority over money matters and regulatory matters, lessen power. Nothing else will work - take it to the Bank!
If they were to ban monetary payoffs, then politicians would just be paid off in other ways.

However, remove the power that politicians wield, and like magic, the cronyism will disappear as well.
