Ice-T Defends Gun Rights

Ice-T gets it. He understands that the Constitution allows guns, not for hunting purposes, but so that citizens can protect themselves against tyranny.

During an interview, he said:
Ice-T: Well, I'll give up my gun when everybody does. Doesn't that make sense? If there were guns here, would you want to be the only person without one?

Krishnan Guru-Murthy, anchor, Channel 4 News: So do you carry guns routinely at home?

Ice-T: Yeah, it's legal in the United States. It's part of our Constitution. You know, the right to bear arms is because that's the last form of defense against tyranny. Not to hunt. It's to protect yourself from the police.

Anchor: And do you see any link between that and these sorts of incidents (Aurora)?

Ice-T: No. Nah. Not really really. You know what I'm saying, if somebody wants to kill people, you know, they don't need a gun to do it.

  1. I just picked up an excellent book on this topic called The Founders' Second Amendment: Origins of the Right to Bare Arms. The book actually covers everything that happened in the Revolutionary War relevant to the topic and gives a very good explanation of why the purpose of carrying guns is not only an individual right of self-protection, but it is also a right to defend oneself against a tyrannical government.

  2. To pick up on Ice-T's point about somebody wanting to kill somebody, and that they don't need a gun to do it. The "accused" suspect supposedly had bombs all over his apartment. Just imagine if didn't have gun, and instead used bombs. Everybody in the theater would be dead.

  3. The shooter in Aurora is an outlier. How many people legally own guns and never shoot anything other than paper targets at the range? The ratio of legal gun owners to illegal actions taken by those legal gun owner with their legal guns is off the chart. Tens of millions to one. I hope the American people are still smart enough to ignore the anti-gun lobby and consider what one of the victims could have done to protect him or her self had they been allowed to carry a gun.
I hope the crazy bastard has a lucid moment and can tell the court that he chose the location of his crime based on knowing that people weren't allowed to have guns to defend themselves.

  4. We definitely need to pass a law. It should be illegal to shoot people in movie theaters! I can't believe we live in a country where it's not already illegal to murder people in theatres. More laws will definitely fix this.

  5. Was the theater a "gun free zone"?

  6. I saw Ice-T speak and was surprised by how interesting it was. He did drop a bit of Rothbardian power elite analysis and said that there are games so big, even he doesn't have the paper to play in them. He went on to explain what those games are, one we all know pretty well over here.

  8. Tom @ 12:25 PM

In answer to your question, yes. Customers of Century 16 (the theater in question) are not allowed to bring a gun, even if concealed, to the premises. The City of Aurora also bans concealed carry permits. Any theater-goer that would have shot back at this Holmes lunatic would have been arrested.

    1. Not Tom @ 12:25 PM. So the City of Aurora is culpable or liable in enabling these deaths by denying them some form of protection.

  9. Gun ownership falls under the umbrella of property rights. You have the right to own property. Rights do not come from the State. Ugh, just imagine the War on Guns turning into another debacle like the War on Drugs.
