Smoking Banned INSIDE Santa Monica Residences

NBC Los Angeles reports:

Smoking is already banned at beaches, parks, restaurants and near buildings in Santa Monica, but Tuesday night the city council sought to expand that prohibition and voted 4-2 to ban smoking for all new tenants of apartments and condos inside their residences – with one exception.
“It also requires existing residents to designate their units as smoking or non smoking and from then on it will be prohibited to smoke in a non smoking unit,” said Adam Radinksy, head of the Consumer Protection Unit in Santa Monica.
This is really mad government interventionism. If I am going to buy or rent an apartment, as a non-smoker, I am going to pay attention to whether an apartment reeks of smoke or not. If it does, I am likely to ignore it, or, if I really like the place, I will see how much it will cost to get rid of the smell, if that can be done.

No need for Santa Monica central planners to mess with my decisions.

This kind of creeping central planning will never stop, without a major change in attitude by the creepy planners.

  1. The scary part is this: Adam Radinksy, head of the Consumer Protection Unit in Santa Monica

They waste tax dollars on a CPU? Good Lord!

  2. On of the things that bugs me is that people pay a PREMIUM to live in Santa Monica.

Here on Green Turtle Cay, *COURTESY* determines whether smoking is ok or not. Funny, it works.

  3. Are the buildings that shabby that cooking, toilet, smoke, fire, and other odors can freely recirculate through them?

  4. It is not mad intervention; it is sensible public moral policy. I live in an apartment, and smoke often comes into my apartment from the hallway, through an open window, causing me a headach.

I say BRAVO for this development.

  5. I sadly say "BRAVO" for yet another individual who misses the point....it needs to be your decision and the apartments themselves, not some "governing" 3rd person.

  6. This is totally ridiculous, ever consider imposing bans on the industries who are responsible for the pollution, the air we inhale is also not safe, why only smoking.

  7. Smoking should be banned in places where a lot of people are present, you can't imagine how dangerous second hand smoke is and how severely it can damage your health.

  8. Smoking should only be banned in places privately owned where the owner wants to ban smoking.

  9. I hear that in property in east london it's still the homeowners' discretion if they want to get rid of smoking in their area, and not the MP's.

  10. Such smoking bans are helpful to bring down the ratio of tobacco utilization, many people will either quit this habit or will smoke less, which is a good thing and a lot of lives can be saved.

  11. I agree with you, Tatiana, the implementation of anti-smoking campaigns would likely decrease the number of smokers. In this case, health problems that they get from smoking can be reduced and with what Tatiana said that a lot of lives can be saved.
