How Far Back Did Ron Paul Operatives Start Cozying Up to Mitt Romney

Way back, in the debates. Jesse "Anonymous" Benton tells Time:
Paul attacked other candidates more than he did the former Massachusetts governor. “That made it pretty clear to anybody with brains that our side had started talking with the Romney people,” says a senior Paul staffer.

    1. More like RepubassliCAN. Seriously, what is that even supposed to mean? CAN what? Which genius came up with this brilliant slogan?

  2. "For Paul to be officially nominated from the floor at the convention — which would guarantee high-profile coverage and a speech — he needed control of five state delegations. Some were still being contested as Republicans descended on Tampa, but Paul didn’t have the numbers. Campaign manager Jesse Benton said his team only had themselves to blame."

Benton and I are in agreement, we have only Jesse's team to blame.

Elitist 1% vs The Liberty Movements 10% in the year 2016.

    1. Good luck!

Unfortunately I do not share your optimism. Liberty and politics are never going to mix. The Political arena is owned by the elite. They make the rules, own the broadcasters, and pay the referees. However, its not completely impossible to beat them in politics, just highly unlikely to the most extreme.

Pure liberty comes when there are no politicians. Using the politically process to obtain liberty is sort of like using war to make peace.

Your best bet is to be as highly educated as you can in all the arguments for and against liberty so that you can persuade as many people as possible (oh and become and expert persuader). We need to get people laughing at the state. Once everyone sees the emperor's lack of cloths he will lose his power. Or when the Key Stone Cops finally fumble and bumble enough to create an opening (read economic collapse) we need as many liberty people around to make sure the old system is not resurrected or replaced by something more totalitarian.

Remember this fight has been going on since the pharaohs (as Ron puts it) and while I admire your enthusiasm (I thought Ron was going to win it in '08); I just don't think we are going to be any closer in 16 than we were in 88. Granted we are much closer now than 2000 years ago.

Also, If Ron wins this year we may actually get the troops home and a few other cool things, but we still would need to take over the house and the senate (or at least persuade those folks to see the light). One major problem most people forget is a lot of people actually want more government and more debt! Some people are statists! Some people want the government to take care of them from cradle to grave! Some people actually enjoy the whole team spirit/rivalry game between the two political parties.

The statists will fight you every step of the way and the fight won't be over after one election of one politician.

    2. That is why the American Revolutionaries put the 2nd Amendment in the Constitution.

  4. Jesse Benton left a message on Peter Schiffs phone, see the video. He told him to stay away from PAULfest, not to speak, they were bad people, fringe elements, etc.

This was a Ron Paul celebration. Why would that offend the Paul campaign? The Libertarians there are now not as good as the Neocons that the campaign has cozied up to?

  5. This implicates Ron Paul in the sellout. Thus far, I've been saying he let his people run amok. Turns out Ron was in on the sellout all along. He owes his supporters an apology.

    1. bingo...rockwell has some explaining to do too. my only hope for these poseurs now is that they're setting rand up as some epic sleeper cell for a few years down the road.

rockwell basically telling young tomorrows freedom fighters to stay away from the convention...cower in your overloards corner...there's nothing to see here...move along. i say go raise some hell...

    2. No because why would you sell out now, at the end of the line after 35 years of being Dr No? for a few crumbs of respect from the GOP?

    3. Maybe someone would sell out for threats on their life, or their family's lives. I don't know, but I would not be surprised. We are not in "Hell," but it is clearly visible from here.

    4. Heath,

Regardless of what he's done for the past 35 years, Paul changed his debate strategy to favor Romney. He was cooperating with Romney. This is tantamount to an unspoken endorsement. This could not be Benton's fault, since Benton was not the one debating on stage. That Ron would ask for money from people who wanted him to run to win and secretly make nice with Romney at the same time is shameful and fraudulent.

It pains me to say it, but Ron sold out. He plays the idealist when talking to his donors, but it's clear, if this source is credible, that behind the scenes he's scheming much like his son.

    5. Because he had to secure his son's political future in the GOP. He was blackmailed: either you are going to play nice with us and do whatever it takes to subvert your own campaign, or Rand is toast. As simple as that.

    6. Who cares WHY he did it? He did it, and it was dishonest and deplorable. If this movement never grows beyond the personality cult it is now ("Titans of Liberty"???), it's the liberty movement that's toast.

    7. but Ivan, Rand now has to compete with your Romneys, Ryans and all the other Reagan wannabe's just that there will always be a suspicion of him being the libertarian Manchurian candidate.

    8. That's right, I didn't donate money & time to Ron Paul to help his fucking son's career. I did it to get Ron elected or at least as many votes as we could.

  7. There's a difference between being loyal to principle, and being a political player.

Ron Paul is loyal to principle, and that loyalty and consistency has won him great admiration, rightfully so. But he's also a political player, using his own values and judgments to make calculated decisions that maximize his values.

He's not a superhero, he's a human. And I've lost none of my admiration and respect for him.

    1. Thank you...very well said.
If you want to stay in the politcal game, there will always come a time when you've got to play the hand you're dealt. Ron Paul has done an excellent job of playing his hand while, and as you said, making calcualted decisions to maximize his vision...and staying highly visable.

  8. I find it odd that this article gets published in Time, an establishment rag, yet this same Time did not even mention Ron Paul in a single page article in an issue just after the first Republican presidential debate.

It was as if he never existed.
