Peter Schiff is Voting for Romney

Luke Rudkowski got a guest pass into the last night of the RNC and got to question Peter Schiff.

First, it should be noted that Schiff didn't run away from Rudowski and his camera like Rand Paul has done in the past.

And, second, Schiff called Romney the lesser of two evils, so this wasn't a major endorsement, but I don't really see enough of a difference between Obama and Romney that it makes much of a difference who gets in.

They are both very evil and I'm not sure which is more evil. Given the way Romney ran the RNC with such an iron fist that he pissed off both Ron Paulians and Tea Party people (and he needs their votes to win!), it's clear that Romney is one major league totalitarian hard ass control freak---not the type you want as president.

At the same time, President Obama in a second term will most assuredly implement more socialistic schemes.

In other words the choice comes down to a totalitarian iron fister and a socialistic schemer. Some choice. Peter apparently sees a difference between the to, but I don't.

  1. I listen to Peter's podcast everyday. He has said numerous times he's voting for Gary Johnson unless the race in Conn. is so close, which it won't be.

  2. Usually when he talks about this on his radio show, he'll say that he'll probably vote for Gary Johnson but if the vote was expected to be very close between Obama and Romney it CT (which he is not expecting) he'll vote Romney

  3. Schiff's made it clear in many occasions that Gary Johnson's his first choice. Since he will vote in Connecticut which will likely be majority for Obama, he will vote Libertarian...with the caveat that should the election be close enough in CT between Romney and Obama, he would vote for Romney with the idea that the spending and growth will slow down (albeit not enough to stop this trainwreck).
I find it quite ironic that some Libertarians promote freedom except when it comes to voting. If you make the wrong choice, you become a pariah.

    1. No libertarian (you don't capitalize it) is saying people shouldn't be free to vote for whoever they want. But there is nothing wrong with being free to disagree with that decision. Plus when you consider that this is a vote for who is going to rule over us and take our freedom away, it might cause a few people to get a little peeved when a fellow libertarian (it's probably a stretch to call Schiff libertarian) is supporting a tyrant.

    2. "I find it quite ironic that some Libertarians promote freedom except when it comes to voting."

I have not read or heard one libertarian that promotes that people should not be free to vote. What I *have* read or heard is libertarians encouraging people to *not* vote. Big difference.

"If you make the wrong choice, you become a pariah."

One person's vote does not decide who wins. It doesn't matter anyway, because with either choice, we are all screwed.

  4. Peter has made it clear that he thinks Romney is the lesser evil, though like you I don't really see why. However, Robert, Schiff has addressed this issue many times on his radio show, he says he will probably vote Gary Johnson because Connecticut is certain to go for Obama anyway.

Someone needs to call into his show and explain why Romney is Obama and both are so bad neither is worth supporting in any way.

  5. Is it just me or does it sound like Schiff almost said "One of those two clowns..." at 1:42. :)

    1. Yea, he edited himself. You're right.

The question is though, why bother? Who is it he's trying to please by not referring to Romney as a clown?

That's an interesting question to me. You have to wonder if he isn't plugged into the establishment in some tertiary way...maybe all the FINRA bullshit scares him enough to keep him from telling the truth completely about those in power.

It just shows he's not completely on board with with even minimal gov't. I always thought his minarchist credentials were suspect....

    2. He totally almost said "clown". LOL. As a clown myself, I am outraged to be grouped together with those two buffoons running for president.

  6. Rudkowski is reciting pointless quotes rather than addressing the actual issue.

When Schiff says he's voting for the lesser of two evils, Rudkowski responds "the lesser of two evils is still evil." True, but so what? That's not even the point. Of course Schiff knows that; in fact, the statement "I am voting for the lesser of two evils" is itself an acknowledgment of that very fact. Does the statement imply out of two evils, one is good? Absolutely not. All it implies is that one is slightly less evil than the other, and thus, both are evil. This sort of statement made by Rudkowski deserves to be up on a facebook wall, not present in an interview.

What Rudkowski should have asked upon finding out Schiff believes Romney is the lesser of two evils, is by what standard? What concrete evidence is there to prove Romney is a lesser evil than Obama? Certainly his foreign policy will either be just as bad or worse. Certainly he will not cut total spending any more than Obama. Certainly his civil liberties violations will be the same or worse. The only thing I can think of where he will be better than Obama is that he may lower taxes on the rich. But what about the middle class? After all, it was mainly Republicans a while back (including our good friend Rand Paul) who were trying to raise payroll taxes. Regardless, this is the sort of information we want from people who believe they are voting for the lesser evil. What evidence do they have to prove their claim?

If slaves can vote to receive 6 whippings a week rather than 7, I say, sure, go ahead and do it. But you have to be very sure of yourself. If all slave masters are known for being devious liars, your actions may in fact be counterproductive. Perhaps the one you're voting for is actually going to whip you 8 times.

    1. Absolutely disagree. If you vote for the lesser of two evils, you are giving your consent to the rules of the game and accepting the outcome. Implied in all games is the fact that if you choose to play, you are accepting the rules. You can always refuse to accept to play.

      Delete
    2. I think you're missing the gun that's pointed at your head regardless of whether you're playing or not.

In other words, you're playing whether you like it or not. You actually don't have a choice. You have a choice not to vote, but that's not the game. It's the game within the game.

You and I may agree that it's the right strategy NOT to play the voting game, but I disagree when you say that by voting you are giving consent and accepting the outcome. Just as the slave metaphor shows, it really doesn't matter. The slave masters are going to whip them regardless of whether they vote or not.

    3. To those who say that voting validates the system: does flinching validate the person punching me in the face?

    4. IMHO, NOT voting is a louder statement than voting.
If the turnout this election is significantly lower than normal, it WILL send a message.
Of course, the MSM will chide us for our lack of civic responsibility.

  7. First and foremost Peter Schiff is a businessman and of course he would vote for Romney, even if he doesn't believe Romney is any better (other than to business). Realistically it is in a business' best interest to get rid of Obama.

I personally think voting for the lesser of two evils is still voting evil and so abstain from this circle jerk.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Why would he consider voting for Romney unless he likes his policies? There is virtually no chance his vote will make any difference. If he is going to waste his time voting he might as well vote for someone he actually likes.

  9. Peter commented on this video and said that the question posed was between Obama and Romney, and didn't include Gary Johnson. He indicated that he will be voting for Gary Johnson for President.

  10. I guess Peter's fear of Obama winning is so great he has to publicly pretend that voting for the lesser evil matters. It actually does more harm than good to vote for either evil twin. It continues to give credibility to one of the most corrupt election processes in the world. If everyone unhappy with "O" or "R" would write in Ron Paul or vote a third party we might turn a few heads. Of course controlling the voting machines is all that counts. Legitimate exit polling must be conducted at every precinct for verification of the machine tally. But that doesn't happen. Americans are so asleep it's hopeless.

  11. Schiff attended one of the conferences held by the Koch brothers. This shouldn't be a surprise to anyone.

  12. You guys are making a fuss out of nothing. He doesn't say anywhere in this video that he's VOTING for Romney. He simply says that, if forced to choose between Romney and Obama, he'd prefer Romney. I don't vote at all, but if you must, and all the choices are bad, then "throwing the bums out" is as good a rule as any. And that seems to be Peter's rationale. Obama has already done enough harm, now let someone else have a chance at ruining the country.

    ReplyDelete
  13. one of the top comments on this video is Peter Schiff's account commenting that he is voting Gary Johnson because "since CT is going for Obama I can vote my conscience" but he did say that were he living in a swing state he would vote for Romney (presumably because he thinks that his tax bill would be better)

I really don't think this is as big a deal as some think it is.

  14. If I were Peter Schiff, I would vote for Gary Johnson or RON PAUL and stick to my principles. Just in case a miracle occurred, and we elected a president who would pardon his father, and everyone else that deserves pardoning. Irwin Schiff deserves to be home with his family.

  15. I do not get the sense that Romney is evil. He is clearly a good, decent human being. That being said, I was and am still a Ron Paul supporter.

However, I am convinced that the GOP want to deliberately lose this next Presidential election. (Whether Romney himself wants to win is less clear.) Much like the GOP deliberately put Obama in office by nominating McCain in 2008.

  16. Neither Romney or Busch can fix our financial woes. Nobody can. Too late! There is going to be a global monetary collapse sometime in the next few years. Who would be less likely to try to assume dictatorial powers when that happens, Obama or Romney? I believe it would be Romney. Romney is a narcissist. Obama is an arrogant narcissist. The latter is more dangerous...the greater evil. I agree with Peter Schiff. I will hold my nose and vote for Romney.

  17. Schiff went to the Occupy protests on Wall Street and identified himself as "one of the 1 % ers" so this doesn't come as any surprise that he would vote for a fellow Wall Street crony.

  18. Big Peter Schiff fan, listen to his show every day. He has repeatedly said that he will vote Gary Johnson unless CT is so close that it could go Romney if his one vote decided it. Schiff knows that Romney and Obama are both for government. I like how he was cordial enough to address the person taking the video. This definitely was not an endorsement for Romney of any kind.

  19. Wenzel,
Peter Schiff is one of the good guys. Stop riding his jock for crying out loud.

  20. Schiff is compromised. He tried to take down the videos of Benton getting caught dissing RP supporters and trying to tank PAULfest. When Rand endorsed Romney months ago, he gave Rand a platform on his show, complete with softball questions to try to pacify the outrage of RP supporters at the betrayal. There are other things. I think he doesn't want to end up in a cage like his dad and will do anything to calm thugs with guns and power. He knows that they can trump up phony charges in a minute and take him away faster than you can say Bernard Von Nothaus. He has been reduced to saying merely academic and abstract things. Any application of those principles is for risk takers with courage, not Peter.

    1. Please tell us all about the good things his dad has done for the liberty movement while locked up in prison.

I have no doubt whatsoever that he's been threatened in one way or another if he does not show some compliance. Would you rather him simply disappear just to appease your own anger at the system? Peter is better for the liberty movement out of jail and free to speak.

  21. He's said on his show that when the major crash happens, probably in the next administration, then Romney would have more of a sympathetic ear to real free market solutions than Obama, in a relative sense.

He knows Romney doesn't understand the economy but since he has worked in it the possibility is greater to convince Romney rather than Obama. Of course It'd be easier if you didn't have to convince anyone but, anyway, I hope that'll explain his answer a little.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Well, it's too bad he's voting at all. A vote for either or any candidate is a vote for the system and the Oligarchs. So what Schiff (and everyone else who votes) is doing is just giving aid and comfort to the enemy...

    ReplyDelete
  23. What an irresponsible headline Wenzel. Peter Schiff never said he was voting for Romney. In fact, in the video comments he said he is voting for Gary Johnson.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I have tremendous respect for Mr. Wenzel and agree with him regarding romney/obama from the standpoint of it being true that on a long enough timeline, both represent the absolute destruction of individual Liberty.
I'm with Schiff though on this. The reason being is that I consider it to be an opportunity to send a signal to TPTB. We have an opportunity in removing obama to be disruptive. They will be forced to take a step back. This may only buy us time, however during this time the Liberty movement can grow and strengthen.
Four years from now if romney (under)performs as expected....Give Hillary her shot at the role with ourselves stronger and more well prepared.

  25. If I vote, a long shot, I am going with Obama. First, screw the GOP they had their chance to be decent. Two, I think Walter Block also thinks that, Obama wouldn't be the war monger Romney is. Very little difference on the domestic policies, Obama might not be bombing Iran Feb 1st.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Go to the polls. Write in Ron Paul. That serves as a giant middle finger to the Republican Party (the establishment thugs who ran him out and the clueless mass of minions), the Libertarian Party (who are a waste of time and are subject to being hijacked by yahoos anyway), and every other compromised wasteful part of the machine. The Democrats have always been hopeless, but lots of people already know that. The key is to get people to understand that the other alternatives are equally hopeless, and to let them know we know they're hopeless.

Vote for none of the downticket races or questions.

    Walk out.

    Get on with your life.

Probably won't make a spec of difference, but it will be fun and make me feel better for a few seconds...

  27. I'm not wasting my time by casting a vote, nor taking any responsibility for putting a bastard in office. Thing is, I could make a good case for voting for Obama on the basis that he'll bring about our day of fiscal reckoning a little more quickly than Romney to those who decided to cast a vote for one of the two evil twins.

  28. Schiff is a traitor! How dare he back up Rand Paul? All true libertarians should take Schiff and rip out his entrails and then post them on the Internet.
