Oh Boy

David Warsh reports:
[Lloyd] Shapley [recent announced Nobel prize winner in economics] developed some pretty spectacular eccentricities of his own – in particular a sleep cycle based on a 25-hour clock.

  1. IIRC from my college psychology classes, the natural human rhythm is indeed 25 hours.

In other words, if you put someone in a room without any external light cues, he will sleep and wake on a 25 hour cycle.

People constantly adapt to a 24 hour schedule because of the external input of light from one sunrise to the next.

    1. I don't deny the results external light cue experiment (I seem to remember something similar from college psych class) but it's always struck me as an odd evolutionary trait. I wonder how it came to be

    2. Turns out, I should have denied the 25 hour thing: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Circadian_rhythm#Humans
