On the Occasion of the Death of Arlen Specter, Robert Reich Spills the Beans

BTW, Arlen Specter came up with the Big Lie of his generation to cover up the government role in the JFK assassination: the laughable magic bullet theory.

Many years ago, before email, I wrote Specter a letter criticizing some crazed economic policy he was promoting. I now forget all the details now, but in the letter I called it the "magic bullet theory of economics" and proceeded to explain how his policy propsal would create unexpected (by him) consequences.

A few weeks later, I was watching then-Fed chairman Alan Greenspan testimony on C-Span. After the testimony ended, the C-Span camera lingered, as it often tends to do, and much to my amazement it caught Specter going up to Greenspan and asking him if indeed the consequences, that I had suggested in my letter, would actually occur. Greenspan told him he would do some research and put a report together.
