Romney Hints at More Iranian Sanctions If Elected

As if the Iranian people aren't suffering enough from current sanctions, Mitt Romney said today that he would use the threat of additional sanctions to deter Iran's nuclear capabilities and reverse planned cuts to the US military.

"I will put the leaders of Iran on notice that the United States and our friends and allies will prevent them from acquiring nuclear weapons capability," Romney said in a speech at the Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, Virginia. "I will not hesitate to impose new sanctions on Iran and will tighten the sanctions we currently have."

He also said he would restore the permanent presence of US aircraft carriers in the eastern Mediterranean and the Persian Gulf, and work with Israel to contain any Iranian threat.

I seriously doubt, given the neocon advisers around him, that Romney would stop at sanctions. How's that John McCain song go, "Bomb, bomb, bomb, Iran"?

  1. What scares me most is this working with Israel to contain the supposed Iranian threat. Israel has been pushing pretty openly for US military action. I don't see Romney standing up to the Israelis and his buddy Netenyahu if the Israelis are pushing the US to war.

  3. I wonder what the CO2 emissions of three forwardly deployed carrier battle groups is monthly. And how much oil it takes to keep them deployed a month. Then maybe someone could calculate the food service costs of the carrier battles groups.
