A majority of this is bullshit. It would follow his rationale to question why citizens shouldn't be allowed to own chemical weapons or weapons of mass destruction. "Why shouldn't I be able to buy weaponized smallpox in a walmart or 7-11? Why are the liberals trying to take my guns?" If we made assault rifles illegal the number of police officers killed in the line of duty would decrease exponentially. Even with assault rifles, there is no way a citizen could "defend themselves" against the army. They have reaper drones and heat seeking missiles and tanks. People want to buy AR's so they can show off to their redneck friends and pretend they're though shit. Get real.
You're full of it yourself. It's already illegal to commit murder, whether of police officers or anybody else, for that matter. If someone doesn't even care about laws against murder, how do you figure that they will care about their weapon being illegal? Laws against assault rifles or any other weapon will only affect the law-abiding, who are obviously not the ones making the problems in the first place. But I suppose it will keep those rednecks from showing off.
