A great video on a witness to American History. Isn't it fascinating that the "top" prize was $80.00 and a carton of Winston's. In 1956, if a gallon of gasoline cost $.20, Mr. Seymour could purchase 400 gallons of gasoline with his prize money. Today, at a cost of $3.60 per gallon, he would have to receive $1,440.00 to purchase the same 400 gallons. Isn't it a shame that we have allowed the government to inflate our currency and decrease our purchasing power?
Apparently the newspaper article mentioned in the video: http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1368&dat=19540207&id=wHUxAAAAIBAJ&sjid=SBAEAAAAIBAJ&pg=5624,3979599 (via http://www.theatlantic.com/technology/archive/2012/10/a-guy-who-saw-lincoln-get-shot-was-on-a-tv-show-in-1956-that-is-now-on-youtube/263800/ )
