BREAKING:Obama to Nominate Former US Atty Mary Jo White as SEC Chair

Developing...

UPDATE:

Mary Joe White
Mary Joe White is a revolving door specialist, who can always be counted on by insiders to play the smart game and only go after crony approved targets, and ignore all else.

That's why she was put in charge, by Bush Administration Attorney General John Ashcroft, of investigating Marc Rich's pardon by Bill Clinton. It was good for Rich that he got the pardon. He was a fugitive as a result of trumped up charges brought by publicity hungry then-US Attorney Rudy Giuliani.

That said, Rich moved serious money amongst serious insiders to get the Clinton pardon. The investigation of the pardon was to be a whitewash (pun intended) and White delivered.

At present, she is on the payout side of the revolving door, as chair of the litigation department at the powerful law firm, Debevoise & Plimpton.

Crony Wall Street should be very happy with a White nomination. She'll protect the establishment and crush upstarts, so that when the time comes, the pot of gold on the payout side of the revolving door will be even larger.

UPDATE 2

White has served as a Director of The Nasdaq Stock Exchange, and on its Executive, Audit and Policy Committee. She is also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. She is the recipient of the George W. Bush Award for Excellence in Counterterrorism.

UPDATE 3:

Her spins through the revolving door:

She left her post as US Attorney for the Southern District of New York in January, 2002 to join Debevoise. White served as the United States Attorney from 1993 to 2002. White served as the First Assistant United States Attorney and Acting United States Attorney in the Eastern District of New York from 1990 to 1993.

From 1983 to 1990, White was a litigation partner at Debevoise, where she focused on white collar defense work, SEC enforcement matters, and commercial and professional civil litigation. From 1978 to 1981, Ms. White served as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Southern District of New York, where she became Chief Appellate Attorney of the Criminal Division. Prior to that, she worked as an associate at Debevoise from 1976 to 1978. Ms. White served as a law clerk to the Honorable Marvin E. Frankel, US District Court for the Southern District of New York.
