Rand Paul Scheduled to Leave for Israel as Son Gets Arrested

As I have previously reported, Rand Paul's son has been arrested at Charlotte/Douglas International Airport.

Rand's son, William Hilton Paul, was charged with three misdemeanors: underage consumption, disorderly conduct, and being intoxicated and disruptive. According to ABC, Paul arrived in Charlotte, N.C., on a U.S. Airways flight from Lexington, Kentucky.

Senator Paul's office has issued a brief statement:
Sen. Paul is a national public figure and subject to scrutiny in the public arena, however, as many parents with teenagers would understand, his family should be afforded the privacy and respect they deserve in a situation such as this.
According to ABC, the senator was scheduled to travel to Israel Sunday evening for meetings with Israeli officials. There is no indication as to whether Senator Rand has delayed his trip because of his son's arrest. There are also no details on what conduct William Paul displayed that would have prompted his arrest.

UPDATE

The TSA denies involvemnet. ”We were not involved in the incident,” Jon Allen, a TSA spokesman, told POLITICO on Sunday.

UPDATE 2

William Paul has posted $750 bond and is out of the Mecklenburg County Jail. He is scheduled to appear in court on January 8.
