Neocon: Rand Paul Is a "Less Bright Version of His Father"

WaPo's Jennifer Rubin rips into Rand:
I honestly thought it was impossible for Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) to wind up in any more trouble. After all, he’s already praised the traitor Edward Snowden, who is now seeking asylum from Vladimir Putin; showed himself to be dangerously ignorant with regard to the Fourth Amendment and our anti-terror spying program; and has knowingly hired the “Southern Avenger,” Jack Hunter, a pro-secessionist racial extremist whose comments about minorities send chills up the spine of people of good will on both sides of the aisle. But oh yes, Paul has indeed made things worse.
When speaking to the press about Hunter, he launched into a series of mind-numbing assertions that suggest he’s a less bright version of his father.
She then goes on to analyze various points Rand has made when defending Hunter and then concludes:
All of this leaves one wondering if there is something entirely missing in Rand Paul and his office — judgment. The senator and his staff seem not to comprehend the difference between crazy talk and interesting talk, between what is offensive and what is offbeat. It must come as a great shock to them that Jewish groups, whom they hoped to assuage with nice comments about Israel, are repulsed by his remarks and are saying so publicly. Paul has managed to re-marginalize himself.
So Kentucky Dems, listen up: Forget about Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), who is going to win reelection by a country mile. Start working on finding a conservative Democrat to run against Paul in 2016. By then, the people of Kentucky may have had all they can stand of Rand Paul.
Wow, that's what Rand gets for cozying up to the neocons. They expect him to act, and act now, when they want a change in his staff or policy. They are not even waiting for Rand to allow Hunter to quietly resign in a couple of weeks. The knives are out. Will Rand throw meat to them in the form of Hunter, or will he be willing to endure the very aggressive attacks that will continue to come directly against him and likely bury his presidential aspirations?

  1. RW-
Do you have any info on how Ron Paul is aiding his son in his bid for National Prominence? It is barely conceivable to believe that Ron Paul is completely aloof from his son's activities.

  2. While I have no interest in Rand's political future-I agree that he is not his father in intellect or integrity-I would offer him some advice: He does not need the neocons. He needs the fundie Christians. The two groups may have similar views on Israel, but they are not the same at all.

His best bet is to tell Rubin to stuff it and back Hunter to the hilt. He will have to continue kneeling before Israel (utterly nauseating) to keep the fundies but they probably have no beef with Hunter and will admire him sticking to his guns on this.

That said, I'm not voting for, (and certainly will not send money to) Rand no matter what he does. I gleefully did both for Ron.

  3. I remember Ron Paul being asked about why he held to his principles so strongly while he was in Congress. His reply was that it was "easier" to be consistent than go back and forth on various issues. I'm paraphrasing, of course, but there is something to that. Too bad Rand never internalized that lesson.

  4. Wow Rubin is nasty. What a rotten woman!
