A spokesperson for the CIA told MSN News that, before his death in a fiery car crash, Michael Hastings was working on a piece about Brennan, and that the spy agency said there was a "cordial and working relationship" with him and the agency was "shocked and saddened" to learn of his death.
The spokesperson wouldn't comment on the angle of Hastings' piece, according to MSN News.
Rolling Stone has said it will publish Hastings' final piece, about Brennan, in an upcoming issue.
