Venezuela Orders Takeover of Toilet Paper Factory

Price controls in action. Reuters reports:
Venezuelan state agency on Friday ordered the temporary takeover of a factory that produces toilet paper in what it called an effort to ensure consistent supplies after embarrassing shortages earlier this year.

Critics of President Nicolas Maduro say the nagging shortages of products ranging from bathroom tissue to milk are a sign his socialist government's rigid price and currency controls are failing.[...]

A national agency called Sundecop, which enforces price controls, said in a statement it would occupy one of the factories belonging to paper producer Manpa for 15 days, adding that National Guard troops would "safeguard" the facility.

"The action in the producer of toilet paper, sanitary napkins and disposable diapers responds to the state's obligation to ensure a steady supply of basic goods for the people," Sundecop said, adding it had observed "the violation of the right" to access such products.
Notice the use of National Guard troops. When price inflation heats up in the US, will price controls be implemented here? My greatest fear is that they will then be enforced by TSA and other DHS employees let loose on the land. Then you will know why you don't want a surveillance state, even if "you have nothing to hide." You will when you need to buy from a back market to survive.

  1. "Right to access such products" Huh? Apparently "rights" mean different things to different people. We can't agree on rights, just like we can't agree on the proper role of government (if any).

How do we win this battle against the State?

  2. I'd make a joke about not having a pot to pee in, but it seems like that's the only part the Venezuelan people have covered....

  3. I would love to see Jerry Wolfgang defend this.

I love how he always stays away from threads that expose the utterly bankrupt nature of his bullshit, but does "drive by" posts that appeal to dogmatic socialists.

  4. What a wonderful opportunity to reach out to a dispirited community. After the loss of Chavez, now this! I think we should send our people from the BLS to Venezuela to show our solidarity with the Socialist Peoples!

The BLS Types could easily explain that they really aren't worse off because a fraudulent toilet paper shortage. The Venezuelans could easily substitute other materials for toilet paper, as we in America freely substitute hamburger for steak. The BLS always helps us understand that steak and hamburger - or what appears to be hamburger anyway - is just as tasty as a night out at Outback.

Instead of Veri-Sof Toilet Paper, they could just as easily use leaves or old capitalist newspapers from the corrupt old days. Women could use old towels for their monthly problems, just as the Chinese have for decades.

No problem here! So, I say we send 'em some good ol' BLS Helpers - Sorta' a kinda' permanent assignment. The Venezuelans could use their help for a looooong time. We wouldn't mind a bit.
