A Keynesian Interventionist Fails Comprehension Test During His Off the Wall Experience with an Obamacare Exchange

The University of California at Berkeley economics professor and  research associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research, Brad DeLong, reports:

SO I WENT ON THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT HEALTH EXCHANGE MARKETPLACE THIS MORNING TO SEE WHAT I COULD SEE...

…and I could not convince it that I am me:
Identity questions
So I guess that if I want health insurance through http://healthcare.gov/, I am going to have to go back through my VISA card records before the death of our dog Misty in April 2012 searching for whatever veterinary bill from the previous eight months healthcare.gov thinks is "a purchase of insurance"…

Note:  I think DeLong misunderstands the question. Healthcare.gov is asking if one of his pets is named one of the above. The correct answer should be "None of the above." It is not entirely clear from his poorly written post, but DeLong may be trying to indicate that the site won't take "None of the above" for an answer, but, for sure, he is not going to find the answer by going back 18 months into his Visa card records.

  1. What does vet insurance have anything to do with human insurance?

    1. Perhaps the government is afraid the whole country is going to pull a Kramer and bring their whole system down.

  2. They probably need this information to accurately calculate the correct price. I bet those are random names and every time you select NONE OF THE ABOVE, you get a new set.

  3. He shouldn't be figuring out how to answer correctly. He should be asking how and why a fed agency has that information.
