The federal government is in shutdown mode — closing off access to some key government services and even giving tax cheats a potential break — but taxes are still due Oct. 15 for those who got an extension.
The contingency plan for the Internal Revenue Service released by the Treasury Department shows that even though the agency will have to halt major operations in the event of a shutdown, it has no plans to push back any filing deadlines. That means tax returns — and tax payments — are still due by Oct. 15, the filing deadline for any taxpayers who received an extension. The plan states the agency would continue to process electronically filed tax returns and to process returns that include payments.

LOL... yeah, a "real" shutdown isn't it. I'm sure employers will still be withholding ALL taxes from employee paychecks this week.

ReplyDeleteWhat about the returns that result in tax refunds? Are those not going to be processed?
