Because of price inflation.
In January, Wendy's turned its 99-Cent Menu into the Right Price Right Size menu. Now, McDonald's is ending its Dollar Menu after eleven years. The simple truth is: You can't make any money selling burgers for $1, any more, says Atlantic.
That graph shows an annual rate of inflation of 3.2%/year from Jan 2007 to Jan 2013. So if they were selling that 99 cent meal for a profit last year, they can sell it for 1.03 and make a profit this year. Hyperinflation any day now. Buy gold! dollar is collapsing!!!
ReplyDeleteUmm ... no they cannot - not if other input costs also rose by 3% per annum over that time period ... you seriously cannot be that thick, right? ... this was a joke comment, no?
DeleteAmazon has done a little inflating in the past week also.
ReplyDeleteThey have raised the free super saver shipping minimum from $25 to $35.
I remember when you could get a burger, fry and coke for a buck.
ReplyDeletethe point being if you missed it that inflation (even better, Dilution) has made making a profit on cruddy food impossible and it only took seven years or if you like the length of time Barry has been in office plus a sliver of the fratboy's term. But as Chris Postel says the government's looking after the little people.

DeleteCorrection: The benevolent Democrats are, not the evil, vile Republicans.
Jerry, I checked the link at the Atlantic and you hadn't entered a comment there. Why not?
ReplyDeleteNoticed on a carton of ben and jerry's the other day prominently advertising that it's "still a pint."
