Will Rand Paul's "Hold Your Nose and Back McConnell" Strategy Backfire?

Kevin Hall writes at the Iowa Republican:
The only person who comes out of the shutdown looking worse than House Majority Leader John Boehner is Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. And by extension, Rand Paul … Rand and the Gang endorsed McConnell early on, while apparently holding their nose, and are therefore tied to McConnell’s poor leadership while conservatives across the country are bashing him …
Rick Santorum’s 2004 endorsement of Arlen Specter haunted him seven years later on the presidential campaign trail. Rand Paul will have similar issues with his pitch for Mitch when he runs for president in 2015-16 … The irony is, Rand endorsed McConnell because he thought it would help him in the presidential race. Brilliant strategy …
And as much as the media and many of his fellow Republicans want to tear down Senator Ted Cruz, he remains the 2016 Iowa Caucus frontrunner, and will likely boost that standing when he comes here this week

  1. I agree that Rand has made a lot of dumb decisions when it comes to campaigning. However, I just wonder if these people who report on Rand's mishaps would endorse his father or didn't go against him in the previous elections even after stating "he's not his father".

Also, considering that the elder Paul had shady people in his midst, brings up the question, at least to me, that are they, who are being informants to these reporters, doing it because they're establishment infiltrators from the beginning to disrupt the liberty movement?

    1. The reason these reports come out about Rand is because so many people continue to want genuine libertarians to believe he is not only much like his father (like the troll who claims his voting record is similar to his dad's), but actually BETTER, because "playing the game" will give him a better shot at winning the presidency and do...whatever it is they think he would do against the will of the house, the senate, and the majority of the country.

If only everyone would realize and admit there is no idealogical tie whatsoever between Rand Paul and libertarianism, then there wouldn't be so much focus on Rand's gaffes. We'd ignore him in pretty much the same way we'd do any irrelevant, immoral politician full of empty rhetoric and meaningless promises.

  2. It's great news that Ted Cruz is the front runner in Iowa. Hopefully he'll stay in the race long enough to push the candidates as far right as possible and by the time the convention rolls around the GOP will simply be able to adopt the Constitution party's platform. "Restore American jurisprudence to its Biblical foundations." Hopefully they will invite Gary North to speak at the convention.

    1. You make a good point for once.
Hopefully all of this means the democrats will continue reigning, since i am of the belief that Americans will not learn their lesson until government causes a cataclysm. Switching the white house back and forth will merely prolong the illusion that democracy is "functioning". Let liberals completely, utterly destroy the nation economically. Keynes needs to be thrown in the trash as soon as possible.

  3. Rick Santorum had no conservative credentials. Rand Paul does.

    1. That's true.
Of course, that is not necessarily a good thing at all. Conservatives are hardly a dime bit better than liberals.

  5. I believe Rand was manipulated by Trygve Olson into dividing the liberty movement. Rand's worldview and temperament were ripe for it. Rand has been able to do what the Neo-Cons couldn't, divide and conquer the movement.

  6. Kevin Hall writes "Rand and the Gang endorsed McConnell early on"; so by extension one would conclude that Rand Paul is a stinker.

Well, things are going to get really stinky ..... as .... Patrick Martin in WSWS communicates in article Top Senate Democrat Backs Medicare, Social Security Cuts that the recent Raise The Debt Ceiling and Fund Obamacare Legislation mandates that US fiscal policy be established by a House Senate conference committee co-chaired by Democratic Senator Patty Murray and Republican Congressman Paul Ryan. The committee is tasked with drafting a budget for the balance of the current fiscal year, to be submitted by December 13.

An inquiring mind asks well the two some Murray and Ryan, be able to work out a deal?

The article relates Senator Ted Cruz, remains the 2016 Iowa Caucus frontrunner, and will likely boost that standing when he comes here this week.

I comment that Ted Cruz is a Texas Republican, meaning for one thing that he is a Right Wing Christian who opposes abortion and probably same sex marriage. While he appeals to Republicans, he would not be elected President today as the country is behind Obama. But that could certainly change when the economy goes down the tubes and voters find out just how unworkable and detrimental Obamacare is.
